Local Wellness Center Opens after Three Years of Fundraising

After three years of fundraising and hard work, Hubbard residents now have a new place to exercise. The Roosevelt Student Wellness Center had its grand opening today but community leaders say there is still more work to be done. The project has taken three years and almost $200,000 in fundraising. Around 75 people attended the center’s grand opening Friday afternoon, getting a first-hand look at all the renovations.

ORCHID: To the Hubbard Youth Coalition and its president, James Chaney, for their work to convert the old Roosevelt gymnasium into a Student Wellness Center. The organization with partnerships with city government and other groups has succeeded in raising funds to transform the 1920s-era structure into a site for school athletic programs and communitywide uses. So far, the effort has raised more than $200,000 in cash and in-kind donations, enough to enable reconstruction of the space to commence. We’re pleased to see the community unity behind this worthwhile project.

The Hubbard Youth Coalition held an open house Saturday for its new center at the former Roosevelt Elementary building on Orchard Avenue. Residents got to see the building’s current state along with 3D renderings of what the wellness center would look like.

Bright Future Ahead for Roosevelt Gym

The old Roosevelt gym at Roosevelt Elementary School in Hubbard has been cherished by a select few programs as a place that they were able to call home. After being used primarily by local athletic teams within the Hubbard Exempted Village School District, the Hubbard Board of Education is now working with the Hubbard Youth Coalition to renovate the gym and open the building to the public. Any big project is built on teamwork, cohesiveness and the ability to bring a plan together, and the two organizations have formulated a strategy and moved forward with an idea that will be better for the community as a whole. It’s great to see. Teamwork, does in fact, make the dream work.

Hubbard High School is proud to announce the completion of its performance and rehabilitation room renovation with an expansion project, made possible through the incredible support of private donations from Hubbard Football Moms, Hubbard Touchdown Club, Greenwood's Hubbard Chevrolet and Jim and Leslie Pallante. The district would like to extend its appreciation to the Hubbard Youth Coalition for their help in facilitating this project. With a total investment of approximately $42,000, the newly transformed space now offers an array of amenities that will benefit students, athletes and the entire school community.
