Roosevelt Elementary School, and once High School, has been a part of our Hubbard history since 1920. Many in our community hold fond memories of school years there attending classes, playing games in the gym and running around the playground with friends during recess. To ensure future generations of Hubbard youth have the opportunity to create memories of their own you can be a part of remodeling Roosevelt into a Student Wellness Center.

With the support of the Hubbard Board of Education, HYC, is raising the funds necessary to renovate Roosevelt for expanded use by Hubbard School teams and organizations as well as community youth sports leagues. An additional goal will be to see it used as a community center for Hubbard residents when not in use by our students. The renovations will be completed in phases or in whole based on the timeframe of funds raised through your tax deductible donations.

Phase 1 — $97,715 Goal Reached!

Phase 1 includes both second floor balcony areas that are currently closed off and unusable. The newly updated renovation plan includes removal of the existing bleachers and extension of the concrete surface to increase the width of the platforms. The increased space will allow the second-floor platforms to be usable for batting cages and pitching machines on one side and a turfed training area that will be usable for all sports on the other side. Secure storage room(s) for equipment will also be created. These improved plans for the Phase 1 renovation have been unanimously approved by the HEVSD School Board and construction and renovations have been completed.

Phase 2 — $128,578 Goal Reached!

The upgraded Phase 2 renovation plan includes removal of the existing bleachers on both sides of the gym floor and extension of the concrete surfaces to increase the width of the two platforms. The increased space will allow the first floor platforms to be usable, functional training areas for all sports that will include a weight room with squat racks, dumbbells, benches and free weights on one side; and on the other side a cardio area with ellipticals, treadmills, stationary bikes, and wrestling mat storage. Door(s) will also be installed on the weight room side so coaches and athletes can easily access the outdoor space for additional training. The upgraded plans for Phase 2 have been unanimously approved by the HEVSD School Board.

Progress Report: We celebrated the completion of Phases 1 and 2 with a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony on June 28, 2024!

Phase 3 — $118,950 Goal Reached! Includes over $51,000 of in-kind donations!!

Removal of the existing classrooms on the second floor to create a large multipurpose room that can be used for a variety of activities (meetings, birthday parties, club get-togethers, parent gatherings during practices, film with players, etc.). This phase will also include new ceilings, new floors, railing alterations, as well as new lighting fixtures throughout the facility. Finalized plans for Phase 3 were unanimously approved by the HEVSD School Board at the September 2024 Board Meeting.

Phase 4 — Currently Fundraising

This phase should not involve any demo work and will consist of improvements and updates to the Lobby including adding changing rooms, a reception desk, multimedia, and flooring repairs. Equipment upgrades include scoreboard repair, scorer's table, sound system, installation of a golf simulator and projector. Completing Phases 3 and 4 construction-related renovations simultaneously will help keep costs down, so with that in mind it is our hope to complete these phases together. Fortunately, the equipment upgrades (estimated at $19,250) will be installed after the remodeling work is completed, so with adequate funding in place renovations to the building may commence before equipment-related funds have been fully raised. Although this is not our ideal scenario, the cost savings make it beneficial to the overall project budget. Finalized plans for this phase were unanimously approved by the HEVSD School Board at the September 2024 Board Meeting.

Phase 5 — Newly Added!

We've received such great input from our Hubbard community and one of the top questions has been "when will you update the outside?!" Well, we've taken your question and suggestions to heart and this is THAT phase. Dedicated to encouraging outdoor activities this phase will include a playground area, basketball court, pickleball courts, a putting green, multipurpose field, and a walking path. We can't wait to have this final piece of the renovation in place for our kids and community!
